Pfizer Inc. said Tuesday that it has launched its first generic version of the impotence drug Viagra for impotence treatment, Levitra.
Pfizer said the launch, which was also the first for Viagra, will be available by November.
The drug is the first approved for the treatment of male impotence in the world.
Levitra is the first generic version of the drug approved by the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and it is being manufactured in India.
Viagra, the only FDA-approved medicine to treat erectile dysfunction, will be the first generic version of Pfizer's impotence drug.
The drug's market share was down by more than 50 percent in the fourth quarter of 2017. Pfizer's market share was down by 50 percent in the same period in 2017.
Pfizer's stock rose 55 percent on its morning high.
Pfizer is the second major pharmaceutical company to be affected by generic Viagra sales, with the drug market in the U. down 42 percent in the fourth quarter of 2017.

Pfizer's shares fell 1.2 percent in afternoon trading after its U. shares fell 2.6 percent.
